Maintaining your own pool saves money

Posted by Guest Author | Posted in Travel | Posted on 10-03-2010

Maintaining your swimming pool is really quite straightforward and will save you a lot of money. Slipshod maintenance causes expensive breakdowns in equipment and also means you end up spending more on chemicals.

To have a less expensive but not less safe pool, follow the directions carefully especially with swimming pool chemicals.

To preclude problems that are usually costly and difficult to repair you need good maintenance.  You can save the expense of professional pool cleaners if you do simple good pool maintenance.

Saving on Chemicals?

Don’t skimp on  pool chemicals, this is not how you should make savings. Remember:When your pool is unsanitary it costs more in the long run. To bring your pool back to safe levels a lot of expensive chemicals and procedures will be needed.

Safety

Be careful if you administer the swimming pool chemicals .   They are safe in their diluted form but toxic when concentrated.

Never mix swimming pool chemicals with any other chemical product.   A fire or explosion could be the result.

Chlorine

Be sure to dissolve granular chlorine in water before adding it to your pool.   Do not add the water to the chlorine but add the chlorine to the water and put all these pool chemicals away from children.  Automatic dispensers will add chlorine to keep the right balance and be less work.   Your chlorine level should be at 1 to 3 parts per million steadily.   You can have your pool water tested every week for balance of the ph and alkaline during the summer at a pool supply store.

Save money with cleaning

The cleaning of your pool is the best spot you can save money. Regularly vacuum the sides and bottom and skim the leaves and debris on the top. IF possible take some time to skim the pool each day. For keeping tiles, cement and fixtures sanitary brushes are very important.   Even though more expensive, PVC brushes are good for cement as well as tiles and last a lot longer.

Take Lessons

You can take lessons or tutorials and learn how to use a pool test kit to test ph balance, amount of chlorine, bromide, acid and alkalinity if there are any convenient for you, or go online to learn proper pool cleaning.

Summary

Habitual cleaning, vacuuming and skimming, filter changing and checking the ph alkaline balance are the main things you can do to save money in the maintenance of your pool.
